Restoran ASV @ Melaka

29 09 2010

When my brother-in-law brought my family to eat Mee Rebus in Melaka, I didn’t know that a plate of Mee Rebus costs only RM 2. Yes, that is right. At Restoran ASV (which is actually a make shift Mamak stall underneath a big tree), the food is ridiculously cheap. In fact, the inexpensive meals are probably the main reason for the huge afternoon crowd when I was there.

The big question is what can we expect from a RM 2 meal? Well, Restoran ASV certainly did not skimp on the portion. The yellow thick noodles were complimented with thick curry sauce.

Cucumber and chili slices were also served together with fried shallots on the top.

Taste wise, I find the gravy too overpowering with strong curry taste. It was only average given that I can’t taste anything else other than the curry flavour. However, at RM 2 one shouldn’t be complaining too much. At the very least it was a decent meal.

The ABC (Shaved Ice) costs only …. RM 1!

Again, do not expect the best tasting dessert but it was oklah.

Paddington House of Pancakes @ 1 Utama

27 09 2010

It has been quite a while since I ate the pancakes at Paddington House of Pancake. Everytime when I visit the place, I would love to try something new. The menu, filled with so many scrumptious pancakes is just so appealing. This time around, I ordered the Classic pancake which costs RM 15.50. Although the price is slightly on the higher side, the taste is absolutely marvelous. Paddington prides itself to only serving the best pancakes around town.

The Classic pancake consists of slices of green apples covering the pancake crumbs underneath.

The ice-cream at the middle with strawberry syrup made it oh so delicious!

Here is a look at what is hidden underneath. The pancake had a fluffy texture and very easy to bite. In fact, it was even softer when soaked with the melted ice-cream.

There were also dark raisins…

Simply irresistible…

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then these pictures are more than enough to describe the wonderful pancake at Paddington. Highly recommended if you are a fan of pancakes!

Scenes from Melaka

26 09 2010

I was at Melaka for a short break during the Hari Raya holidays earlier this month. Jonker Street was especially crowded during this festive holiday season. I also managed to visit the Mini Malaysia which features cultural dance shows as well as replica of old Kampung houses. Here are some of the pictures taken.

Pin Chou @ Klang #2

Some of my readers commented that the earlier thumbnail that I posted was small.  Hence, they are unable to see the individual pictures clearly. I have redone the thumbnail in higher resolution (1218 x 1218 pixel) as well as added more pictures. Hope you like it.

Pin Chou @ Klang

22 09 2010

Last weekend, I was asked to photoshoot some food for Restoran Pin Chou. Apparently, they are in the midst of revamping their menu and hence the photoshoot session. By the time I reached home, I was feeling really exhausted as the whole session lasted for almost six hours. Nevertheless, it was a great learning experience for me. Here are a handful of the pictures taken.

Restoran Famous Seremban Favourites @ Sunway Mas

20 09 2010

When I Googled about Famous Seremban Favourites,  I was surprised to read so many positive reviews about about their Char Siew or BBQ pork.  As far as I know, Seremban is always well known for their ‘Ngau Lam Mee’ or Beef Noodle. Hence, it was rather unexpected (at least for me) to realise that Char Siew is also one of Seremban’s signature delicacy.

Since it has garnered so many rave reviews, I thought it would be good idea to try out the food to see what the buzz is all about. A word of advise though. Since the place is extremely crowded during lunch hour, it is better to go early to avoid disappointment. At the same time, service was rather slow as their workers are busy attending to the huge number of customers. But as they say, good things will come to those who wait and true enough, our patience paid off handsomely when we were rewarded with a plate of lips smacking Char Siew.

Simply put, the Char Siew was heavenly! I always prefer eating the lean portion but the Char Siew at Famous Seremban Favourites has changed my preference. The fatty portion complimented the lean meat so well that it was an absolutely delight to taste.

Believe it or not, the fatty part was so soft that it can literally melt in the mouth.

I have never tasted Char Siew as good as this one. Ever since I had tried Ming Kee Char Siew a couple of months back, I was convinced that they serve the best Char Siew ever. But now, my votes go to Famous Seremban Favourites hands down. You haven’t tasted Char Siew until you had it here.

Here are some of the other pictures taken.

Besides Char Siew, we also ordered a plate of roast chicken (RM 6) which tasted quite okay. It wasn’t bad nor was it good enough to warrant a two thumbs up.

The Hakka Mee fares much better. I took the big portion (RM 4.80) which came with a generous amount of flat noodle.

There are many different version of Hakka Mee but the one at Famous Seremban Favourites comes without dark soya sauce. Although the plain looking meal may look unassuming, it certainly tasted nice.

If you are craving for ‘sinfully’ delicious plate of Char Siew and a bowl of Hakka Mee, this would definitely be the place to go.

Eat-Zy Teow Chew Porridge & Rice @ Sunway Mas

14 09 2010

When I was working in Petaling Jaya a few years back, I remember eating Teow Chew Porridge during lunch at a coffee shop at Sea Park. Unlike the ordinary porridge served with pickles and salted egg, Teow Chew’s version has a whole lot more side dishes. This of course, makes the meal more appetizing. Imagine my surprise when I spotted a Teow Chew Porridge shop at Sunway Mas last week. My colleague wanted to try another shop at the vicinity of the area but since it was closed that day, we decided to try the porridge instead.

Here are the side dishes we took…

Veggies (RM 1.50 per plate)

Taufu (RM 1.50)

Fish (RM 3.00)

Egg (RM 1.50)

Chicken (RM 2.00)

Overall, I find the food to be quite tasty. It has been a while since I went to the one in Petaling Jaya (hence I can’t really compare) but the food at Eat-Zy Teow Chew was appetizing. Even my colleague agreed with me.

But the bowl of plain porridge (RM 1.50) wasn’t filling for me. I had to order another bowl of rice (which costs the same) to fill my stomach. Other than that, parking was horrendous as it took me quite a while before I could find a place to park. I guess the tasty meal sort of makes up for the inconveniences I experienced.

Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh @ Glenmarie

13 09 2010

A while ago, I blogged about Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh which opened its newest branch at Glenmarie. Many of my friends visited the restaurant and unanimously agreed that the food was really awesome. The soup was thick and rich with herbal taste while the meat was soft and flavoursome. It was so good that I repeatedly visited my own blog just to reminiscent the food I had there.

Just a few weeks back, I decided to eat at this place again. Quality wise, the food was as good as the first time I tasted. Both the Pai Kut and Luan Kut (RM 9.50 per serving) were finished in no time at all. If you want more description about the food, please click here. Here are all the pictures taken during my second visit at Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh. We also took the pork intestine and You Tiao which was equally good. Highly recommended if you are a Bak Kut Teh lover!

Kie Kee Chicken Rice @ PJ Old Town

9 09 2010

Once again, I made a trip down to Gerai Makanan Kie Kee stall at PJ Old Town to satisfy my cravings for a plate of chicken rice. I have blogged about this place before and hence, I won’t elaborate so much about it. This time around, we tried their roast pork or ‘siew yuk’ which was as good as their roast chicken.

Suffice to say, the meal was cheap and delicious. If I recall correctly, a normal plate of chicken rice should be around RM 3.50.

That’s pretty economical by today’s standard.

A trip to Kie Kee won’t be complete without ordering the famous Chendol from Weng Kee stall. Definitely one of the best Cendol I had so far.

If you are looking for one of the best chicken rice around town, head on down to Kie Kee Chicken Rice.

Restoran Do Re Mi @ Ara Damansara

8 09 2010

I am a fan of pork noodles. The best I had so far was a shop in Kepong which I don’t remember the name now. Perhaps, I will visit that restaurant again in the near future. For the time being, I had to settle for the one selling at Restoran Do Re Mi.

I ordered the dry version which costs RM 4.50 for a big bowl. Beside the sweet and savoury dark soy sauce, a good bowl of pork noodle should have sweet tasting roast sausage to complement the meal.

There was also chunks of pork meat in the soup which can be mixed with the noodles so that it won’t be so dry.

Too bad, the meal wasn’t that impressive. The taste was rather bland in my honest opinion. The roast sausage wasn’t flavoursome enough and there was a lack of soy sauce taste to warrant a thumbs up.

My recommendation is to stick with the bitter gourd noodle if you are going to this coffee shop for lunch.
