Dr. Cafe @ Solaris, Mont Kiara

25 04 2011

One early morning, I found myself at the uber-modern commercial centre, Solaris Mont Kiara to exchange my defective iPhone at DiGi centre. While waiting for DiGi to open, I spotted Dr. Cafe which looks appealing from outside. While I am not a coffee lover, I do enjoy spending my time at any Starbucks outlet since the music and cozy ambiance make it feel like a second home to me.

Dr. Cafe seems to offer a similar ‘feel’ and hence, I decided to have my breakfast there. I took the E-Breakfast value set (RM 7.40) which includes a turkey and cheese burger and a cup of coffee.

The mini burger comes with a slice of turkey with melted cheese oozing out. It has a slight savoury taste to it. Although the portion wasn’t big, it was good enough to fill my stomach although I wish the size was slightly bigger.

As far as I know, Dr. Cafe prides itself on serving the highest quality coffee beans. Like I said, I am not a coffee connoisseur to tell how a good coffee should taste like, but as far as I know, the coffee tasted alright to me.

Apart from the food, the customer service was good (the staff were full of smile) although photography was not allowed inside Dr. Cafe (sigh!). Speaking about the interior, Dr. Cafe do offer their own range of merchandise for sale ranging from coffee cups to tumblers and etc.

And look… Their serviette comes with printed text. How cool is that?

In short, I wouldn’t mind dropping by Dr. Cafe for a cup of coffee if I am around the neighbourhood of Solaris the next time.

GCB @ McDonald’s

24 07 2010

I am sure you have heard about the “What’s your G contest?” buzzing on the radio lately. It turns out that McDonald’s has introduced a new burger called GCB. Glorious, Great-tasting, Grilled…. or whatever the G stands for, this burger has been the talk of the town lately.

Admittedly, multi-million marketing hype does play a big part in this, but the fact that “The new chicken experience” as proclaimed in the advertisement does hold a certain ring of truth as the chicken patty is marinated and grilled unlike the other burgers served at McDonald’s. The packaging is also different as it comes in a box with some facts about the GCB written on the sides.

Inside, the burger comes with lettuce and char-grilled sauce for the flavouring. My verdict? Not too bad, I must say but the price is slightly on the higher side. The medium set meal comes up to RM 11.90 excluding the 5% government tax.

So what’s your ‘G’ today?

Ninja Joe @ Tropicana City Mall

2 12 2009

I am always fascinated with the mysterious nature Ninja. Dressing in full black suit with their face covered, they thread stealthily in the shadows, assassinating their targets with katana or shuriken.  So when I saw this new shop at Tropicana City Mall called Ninja Joe, I promptly walked in to check out what the buzz is all about.

Apparently, Ninja Joe is a new fast food chain which serves pork burger. I can only recall another fast food chain from Japan called Mos Burger in KLCC that serves pork fillet burger but has since closed down. Anyway, Ninja Joe offers six varieties of their mini pork burger namely, Original, Teriyaki, Spicy, Black pepper, Oriental and Sweet and Sour.

All the burgers do look alike except for the gravy which they used to define the choice of flavour. Each burger costs RM 5.95 (solo burger) but you can also buy it in a set of 2 burgers (RM 9.95), 3 burgers (RM 12.95) or 6 ninjas (RM 24.95).

Apart from that, they even have a wacky offer whereby if the customer name is Joe, he or she gets RM 1 discount.

The fillet was very tasty. It kinda of reminded me of dried meat that we usually eat during Chinese New Year.

According to their twitter page, the burgers are 100% free from MSG, flavouring and preservatives.

Besides the burgers, they also serve pork nuggets in the shape of Shuriken. Quite cute I must say.

Here is their Twitter page.
