Nyonya Colors @ Empire Subang Gallery

7 09 2010

One fine day, my colleagues decided to try out the food at Nyonya Colors. Located at the lower ground floor of the newly opened Empire Gallery Subang, the food was comparatively cheaper than some of the more swanky outlets there. Nevertheless, it was still considered pricey as I could get the same kind food at any Chinese coffee shop.

First up was the Mee Rebus (RM 8.90).

Honestly, for that price I would expect at least a decent meal. Instead, the gravy did not have enough ‘umph’.

For half the price, albeit without the comfort of air-conditioning, I can find a better tasting meal elsewhere.

The Asam Laksa (RM 8.90) did not fare much better.

It was disappointing to say the least. Again there wasn’t much ‘kick’ from the dish.

Honestly, I don’t think I would eat at Nyonya Colors again. Carrying the word ‘Nyonya Colors’ certainly has a lot of expectations to be met as Nyonya food is generally known to be really rich with flavours.

Sadly, this outlet fails to live up to that expectation.

The Loaf @ Empire Subang

27 05 2010

Last week, I had lunch with Josephine and Wee Kin at The Loaf. Despite only being my second visit there and I already fell in love with their breads and pastries. The Loaf is a bakery bistro co-owned by our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahatir Mohamad. Using Japanese style baking techniques, their breads and pastries are a class above the rest of the other bakery outlets around town.

Josephine took the Cheezy Ham Croissant (RM 12.80). I didn’t get to taste this but according to her, it is nice. The ham sure looks tasty if you ask me!

Wee Kin ordered the Mixed Mushroom Tartine (RM 12.80).

She commented that the bread was hard which makes it hard to bite. I am not too sure if this is how a Tartine should be. However, the mixed mushrooms tasted good.

Both meals also came with some chips…

As for me, I had the Tun’s Japanese Curry Chicken (RM 14.80). As the name clearly says, this must be our former prime minister favourite curry chicken.

My verdict? The curry is certainly very flavoursome with a strong scent of curry and spices. It is not spicy, just nice. The bread is also thick and can be easily dipped into the cup without ending up too soggy.

Besides that, The Loaf also serves “Mini U-Hu-Hu. I chose three flavours namely Durian, Oreo and Mango Banana. Mini U-Hu-Hu is supposed to be some sort of cheese cakes.

A closer look at them… Well, as they say, good things do come in small packages.

Definitely a place to check out for bread lovers!

Josephine & Wee Kin @ The Loaf

Last Friday, I took my colleagues for lunch at The Loaf which is located at Empire Gallery. While we were all enjoying our lunch, I decided to take a few quick shots of them. It was a fun session as we shared a few laughter together while both of them were trying to look natural in front of the lens. Lol, things became a little awkward later when our little escapade  attracted the attention of other customers who gave us a peculiar look.

Grand Imperial Kitchen @ Empire Gallery, Subang

23 05 2010

Right after our photoshoot with Noel two weeks back, my group of friends decided to venture around the new shopping mall for lunch. We stumbled across this this new restaurant called Grand Imperial Kitchen at the lower ground floor of the mall. I didn’t knew that they had another outlet in Bangsar Shopping Centre (which is very well-known) but the number of customers queuing up for tables on that day was a tell tale sign of how good the food must be.

Anyway, part of the reason why the newly opened restaurant is so popular is because of their super value set meals. At RM 11.90 per set, there were ten different set meals to choose from ranging from Curry Chicken Rice, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Roasted Pork Rice and etc.

We tried the BBQ Slice Pork Noodles and La Mian with Mince Pork. The BBQ Slice Pork were tasty and there were no colouring added to it (as far as I can tell).

One of the way to gauge whether a Wanton Noodle is nicely done is by tasting the BBQ Slice Pork. In this case, Grand Imperial’s seat meal passed with flying colours.

The La Mian was very spicy and definitely not for those who does not like spicy food but for those who does, they will appreciate the extra ‘kick’.

If I had but one criticism about the food, it has to be their soup. Our bowl of soup had a heavy smell of raw pork taste. Hopefully they can improve on that.

Noel @ Empire Gallery

12 05 2010

I woke up early last Sunday and joined Jackal and Dion for a photoshoot with Noel. We decided to choose the newly opened Empire Gallery shopping mall at Subang Jaya for our photo outing. Noel was a great sport despite being a little uncomfortable at first. Unfortunately, the session did not last long as we were all feeling hungry soon after.
