Restoran Bee Kin @ NZX

13 03 2010

A few weeks ago, I stumbled across this new Chinese coffee shop opened along the same row as Ming Yang at NZX, Damansara Ara. Since it was a new restaurant, we  decided to check out the place. Not all the stalls were opened but there were a handful of choices to choose from. My colleague ordered some Yong Tau Foo for us to share. The taste is not that bad.

Soaked in hoisin based sauce (sweet gravy), this is a variant from the more common soup based  Yong Tau Foo.

Brinjals or Eggplant is another common Yong Tau Foo which happens to be my favourite too.

The food are chopped into bite size pieces and then cooked with boiling broth. Yummy…

I ordered a plate of Wantan Mee. Surprisingly, the taste was quite good. Not the best Char Siew (barbecued pork) but it wasn’t bad either.

I took the curry chicken with gravy which was thick and rich with santan (coconut milk).

The noodle was springy and nicely cooked. Thumbs up for the taste.

Fullhouse @ NZX

20 02 2010

It has been quite sometime since I visited Fullhouse at NZX. Apparently, this is the only surviving shop in the dilapidated NZX commercial area which is pretty sad considering how lively it was just one year ago.

Anyway it is always a nice experience going to Fullhouse as the place is reminiscent of a house from outside. The Mini car in front of the entrance is a sure crowd puller!

Inside, the interior is decorated like an English house with props such as pigeons, green grasses, potted plants, umbrellas and etc.

The menu is pretty interesting too since it is filled with hand drawn cartoons depicting the various dishes that they served.

I chose the ‘Thomas’ Favourite Meal’ set lunch (RM 16.90) which comes with a bowl of Forest Mushroom Soup, Spaghetti Pasta with Turkey Ham, Ice Lemon Tea and a dessert.

The forest mushroom soup comes with minced wild mushrooms which gives a thick texture to the soup.

And here is the Spaghetti with Turkey Ham.

I like the white sauce which has a creamy taste to it.

My colleague ordered ‘Tony’s Favourite Meal’ (RM 18.90) which comes with Oven Roasted Chicken Chop with Daily Vegetable.

In case you are wondering what daily vegetable is, it is actually Bak Choy with slice carrots.

Looks pretty good too.

Lastly, here is the lovely cake for dessert. I really don’t know what it is called but I like it a lot.

Overall, I enjoyed the food there. Combine with the nice ambiance and decorations, dining at Fullhouse is certainly an unique experience.

Sarawak Kolo Mee @ Ara Damansara

10 02 2010

Many years ago, I went to Kuching, Sarawak to attend my sister’s wedding. During my short stay there, I managed to try their famous local dish called Sarawak Kolo Mee. Essentially, it is similar to wantan mee  except that they do not use any black sauce. It was really tasty and I can still remember how good it was until today.

So when I stumbled across this stall in Ming Yang selling Sarawak Kolo Mee, I did not hesitate to order a plate.

For RM 4.50, I must say that the serving is quite generous.

However, instead of using the usual char siew for meat, they substitute it with slices of fish cakes which were quite okay for me.

Overall, I wasn’t disappointed with the noodles. The noodles are flat yet springy at the same time. And of course, some green vegetables to add colours to the dish.

True to its origin, they do not put black sauce too. Overall, I enjoyed the meal a lot. Although I have rarely tried Sarawak Kolo Mee elsewhere, I can say that this one is pretty good.

Sheila @ NZX

3 02 2010

Right after our morning shoot at Ara Park, we decided to head towards NZX. The cooler temperature courtesy of the shades in that area was a welcome change for us. Thanks to Sheila for being so professional and understanding throughout the entire shooting session.
