MSS 2011 Day 2: Grand Dinner at the Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa Grand Ballroom

9 10 2011

The dinner was again an eventful experience with a good selection of food ala buffet style held at the Grand Ballroom. For those who love grilled seafood, Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa offers fish, mussles, lala and etc to sink your teeth into.

I also enjoyed the numerous live performances by the team of talented resort staff. We were treated to dances like Rasa Sayang and Kadazan Magunatip Dance. It was really interesting as we get to see how diverse Malaysia culture is with a variety of performances.

The grand ballroom was certainly spacious, offering 840 square-metre and can accommodate up to 1,200 people. The best thing about the ballroom is that there are no pillars thus the stage is unobstructed at any angle.

The ballroom is also ideal for wedding and banquets. To find out more, contact Golden Palm Tree based on the information below.

It was certainly a fun night and we had a group picture on the stage before calling it a night.

Here are some of the other food pictures taken.

Majlis Berbuka Puasa @ Grand Dorsett

3 09 2011

On 24th August 2011, I attended a Majlis Berbuka Puasa organised by Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel. This was part of the Grand Dorsett’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative where orphans from Kanak-Kanak Rumah Kasih Rawang were invited by the Dorsett Community Care Committee to join in for the berbuka puasa (breaking of fast) event.

Mr. Leo Kuscher (General Manager for Grand Dorsett Hotel) gave a welcoming speech followed by a heartwarming Nasyid performance by the talented orphans from Rumah Kasih Rawang. Mr. Leo also presented a mock cheque to one of the caretaker from the orphanage before adjourning to the grandballroom for the breaking of fast.

The Ramadhan Buffet was very enjoyable with over 100 type of home cooked food to choose from. The Soup Gearbox which was served from a huge pot was unmistakably the highlight among all the local dishes available that night. I was told that the soup was cooked with spinal fluid which made the soup thicker and creamier.

I also enjoyed eating the Roti Bom which goes well with the thick spicy sardine gravy. Other dishes such as grilled lamb, ikan bakar, Nasi Arab, Popiah Taiping, Tempura and the mouth watering Ais Krim Goreng were some of my personal favourites.

On this note, I would like to thank Ivy (Create Studio) and Zarmila (Grand Dorsett)  for inviting me to this wonderful event.

Paya Serai Restaurant @ PJ Hilton

6 08 2011

A few days ago, I had a chance to sample over 100 types of local and International delights courtesy of the Paya Serai’s Ramadhan buffet located at PJ Hilton. In fact, I was one of the lucky few who got to enjoy the Ramadhan buffet for free which was only offered to the first 100 guests on the first day of Ramadhan. Overall, I was satisfied with the food which range from Malay, Chinese, Indian and international cuisines. Food were definitely fresh and some of the more notable dishes were grilled lamb, satay and oysters. If I have just one complain, it would be the sheer variety of food which can be overwhelming for me (and my stomach, of course). As a result, I didn’t manage to try their dessert which I heard is equally good as well.

Tao Cuisine & Lounge @ Sunway Giza

21 05 2010

Two days ago, I suggested to my colleagues to try out a new restaurant called Tao Cuisine & Lounge situated at the top floor of Sunway Giza at Kota Damansara. Tao’s concept of buffet spread is slightly different from the usual restaurants. Instead of having all the food pre-prepared on the serving line, customers would need to order the food which will be cooked by their chefs.

Having been to so many buffet restaurants before this, I did not expect much from this place. However, when our food arrived (the waitress recommended the top ten dishes that customers usually order), my impression quickly changed. Not only were the food tasted great, it was one of the best buffet restaurant I have been so far. At RM 58++ per pax, it is certainly not cheap but the quality of the food makes it all worthwhile.

On the side note, the ambiance is dark and I mean really dark. This became a big problem for me as I had to rely on whatever lighting the place has to offer to snap food pictures. Highly recommended if you are looking for good buffet restaurant.

Restoran Shabu-Shabu @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

11 03 2010

A few weeks back, I brought my parents to Restoran Shabu-Shabu at Puchong for dinner. It was their first time visiting this place although I have been there several times. My previous attempts to take pictures at this restaurant with my old Sony Alpha 200 failed as the lighting was pretty difficult to get good shots. Thankfully, the Nikon D300 didn’t have such problem as it was able to cope with the low lighting easily.

What makes Restoran Shabu-Shabu different from the rest of the buffet steamboat restaurant is the manner in which the food are being served. Placed on the conveyor belt akin to those at a Japanese restaraunt, various foods will slowly make its way to all the side tables waiting for the customers to pick them up.

Each customer will have their own steamboat pot which is a good thing for those who like to cook their own choice of food rather than sharing with other friends.

I took these slurpee which came in the form of orange flavour.

And here are some shots I took while waiting for my food to cook. Crab stick…

Mussels…

Fishballs…

Fishcakes…

Crabmeat balls…

Baby octopus (my favourite!)…

And a whole lot of other stuff to choose from…

For RM 26.90 per pax, it is certainly not cheap. But the variety of food to choose from kind of justify the price. A word of advice. It is better to go early as the place will be jam packed by 7 p.m. due to its popularity.
