Ice @ Sunway Giza & Subang Jaya

29 06 2010

Two weeks ago, we invited Ice to do a photoshoot again. As usual, she was very accommodating throughout the entire shooting and understand what we wanted from her. On this note, I must add that she is one of the easiest model to work with which makes the entire shoot so fun and memorable!

Fancy Mee Corner @ Glenmarie

26 06 2010

Fancy eating some delicious Pan Mee? Then head on down to Fancy Mee Corner (pun intended) at Glenmarie. Situated just next to Meng Kee Char Siew, this shop is usually crowded during lunch hour. Hence, I made a wise choice to stop by there for dinner instead as the restaurant was relatively empty during those hours.

Anyway, Fancy Mee Corner is famous for their variety of Pan Mee such as Fish Cakes Pan Mee, Curry Pan Mee, Mince Pork Pan Mee and etc. But for those who prefer the good old traditional Pan Mee, then ‘Mum’s Pan Mee Soup’ would be the obvious choice.

And how was the taste? Basically, it was how a good bowl of Pan Mee supposed to taste like. The usual ingredients such as mushrooms, fried anchovies, mine pork, fungus were included as well.

The Mince Pork Pan Mee was a welcome change for my taste bud. What makes this bowl of noodle so special was the fried fish cakes. As you can see, these fish cakes were nicely fried till golden brown. They were pretty crunchy too.

Once the minced pork sauce is mixed with the noodle, it sure looks appetizing.

If you are a Pan Mee lover (and even if you are not), do give this restaurant a try. As for me, I find their noodle to be quite tasty.

Little Ben Cafe @ Kota Kemuning

25 06 2010

A quick search on the Internet reveals a few noteworthy places to eat around Kota Kemuning. One of them is called Little Ben Cafe which is located next to the Herbaline Beauty Square. Ironically, this charming cafe looks like a house from the outside but it is located within the vicinity of the industrial zone of Kota Kemuning. Hence, it took us quite a fair bit of effort before successfully locating this place (thanks to iPhone GPS function).

The waiter recommended the ‘Village Chicken Rice’ which costs RM 9.90. I noticed that the steam chicken came with sesame seed.

The bean sprouts were crunchy and garnished with some fried shallots.

And the rice had some fragrant flavour in them.

Overall, the food was only average but the ambiance and decor are unmistakably nice.

I don’t mind spending a few hours just to chill out at this cafe. They even provide computers for customers who would like to surf the Internet.

Ka Fei Tiam @ Subang Jaya

24 06 2010

Ka Fei Tiam is another chain of coffee shops that has recently joined the fray of booming ‘kopitiam’ franchise in Malaysia. Located at the new Digital Mall at Subang Jaya, I decided to drop by there for lunch recently.

Among the mixture of oriental and western dishes in their menu, I was keen to try out their Mee Jian Nian RM 8.50). Mee Jian Nian is called ‘Sang Mee’ in Cantonese. The dish comprises of deep fried noodle served with thick gravy and vegetables. I like the noodle to be soaked slightly in the gravy so that it remains ‘crunchy’ while having the taste of the gravy.

Pieces of broccoli add colour to the dish…

Nice fresh prawns….

What makes Mee Jian Nian different from the usual noodle is the inclusion of slices of century eggs. Usually, I don’t like to eat century egg but it is edible when it is cooked in this manner.

Overall, I find the Mee Jian Nian to be quite tasty. The gravy was not too salty and their ingredients were fresh.

Big N’ Tasty @ McDonald’s

24 06 2010

McDonald’s started their McValue lunch promotion sometime back and it was a good thing for those who want to have a cheap meal. Recently, they introduced a new burger called Big N’ Tasty burger which is essentially the same with their classic Quarter Pounder albeit with more vegetables. The meal (together with fries and soft drinks) costs RM 11.15 for a medium size set.

Basically, the burger consists of a 1/4 pound beef patty with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and ketchup. This is one of my favourite burger apart from the Quarter Pounder.

And the fries…. McDonald’s serves the best fries as compared to KFC or Wendy’s. Definitely a great way to start off an appetizing meal!

I.N.T Restaurant @ Subang Jaya

23 06 2010

For whatever meaning the initial I.N.T stands for, this would probably be the least concern in most customers’ mind when they are having a meal at I.N.T Restaurant. This is because their Nasi Briyani is really awesome and one of the best I have ever had so far.

Located at the ground floor of a low cost apartment, the outlook of the restaurant was rather bare bone. Inside, the friendly staff would be all too eager to recommend their Nasi Briyani over white rice and even includes a huge chunk of curry lamb shank when I was there. However, I did not opt for the lamb but instead, I took some other dishes.

I love their fried cauliflower. It was really tasty!

The fried bitter gourd was equally good as well.

The mixed vegetables salad was pretty nice.

I also took the fried omelette and a mixture of curry gravy.

Their fried chicken (which was just deep fried when I arrived) was simply mouth-watering. This is one of the best deep fried chicken I had apart from the one at Village Park.

The meal costs RM 10.50 which is slightly on the high side but considering the amount of side dishes I took plus the huge chunk of chicken (inclusive of the thigh), it was really worth the money. Moreover, the Nasi Briyani was full of fragrant and taste. Highly recommended!

Foh San Dim Sum @ Ipoh

20 06 2010

Having heard so much about the famous Foh San at Ipoh, I was looking forward to try out their Dim Sum on my second day at Ipoh. One thing for sure, the place is extremely popular. In order to get a seat in the restaurant, customers would need to be there as early as 7 a.m. When I arrived there at 7:15 a.m., a handful of customers were already seated, waiting for the Dim Sum to be served.

Suffice to say, I was very satisfied with the food there. Not only has Foh San lives up to the hype, their Dim Sum are really fresh. Hence it is no surprise that many food lovers from outstation will make it a point to travel to Ipoh just to have a taste of the Dim Sum there.

Restoran Lou Wong Tauge Ayam Kuetiau @ Ipoh

19 06 2010

A visit to Ipoh won’t be complete without eating the famous Ipoh Chicken Rice and Hor Fun. Hence my quest to try this local dish lead me to Lou Wong Chicken Rice which is located at Jalan Yau Tet Shin. The first thing I noticed was the amount of customers at this restaurant. At around 5 p.m., scores of people were already seated at the tables stretching to the road side.

Here is a picture of their steam chicken…

To be honest, I wasn’t really impressed with the steam chicken. For all the good reviews I have read about Lou Wong, their steam chicken was only average. Compared to some of the steam chicken I had eaten before this, Lou Wong’s chicken left a lot to be desired. The meat wasn’t tender and flavoursome.

Thankfully, the bean sprouts were fresh, crunchy and thick.

The Hor Fun was smooth and tasted alright just as you would expect a good bowl of noodle to be cooked.

One thing I have to add is the poor level of hygiene at Lou Wong. On a few occasions, I spotted their workers smoking while waiting to serve the customers. The kitchen area was dirty….

Overall I was rather disappointed with the quality of food (and hygiene) at Lou Wong. It is hard for me to recommend this place especially when their steam chicken was mediocre. I heard that Ong Kee which is just opposite of Lou Wong is much better. By the way, the meal costs RM 16.40.

Candid shots @ Ipoh

19 06 2010

While walking around Ipoh town, I spotted some nice old buildings which provide a nice backdrop for some photoshoot. Since it was still early, there weren’t many people around which makes it easier for me to explore the place without much distraction.

100 Yen @ Ipoh

17 06 2010

Right after a heavy afternoon downpour at Ipoh Town, I stopped by 100 Yen shop which is located right opposite of Ipoh Parade. 100 Yen prides itself for selling quality Japanese stuff ranging from kitchenware, candies, stationeries and a whole plethora of interesting items.  While I have come across many 100 Yen shops around KL, this one has to be the biggest by far.

Apart from the imported Japanese stuff, 100 Yen is also famous for its snow ice. Unlike our local Ais Batu Campur (ABC), 100 Yen’s snow ice is shaved from a block of frozen juice. The flavour therefore originates from ice rather than the syrup and other stuff found in our ABC. The texture of the ice is also worth mentioning. It is really fine. Once you put a scoop of ice into your mouth it will melt like ice-cream. The peanut flavour snow ice tasted really good. They added some chocolate syrup as well as some peanuts to compliment the taste. Nice!

Check out the fine texture of the ice..

I ordered the Mango flavoured once which is their best selling so far.

Besides the ice, they also added a few cubes of fresh mangoes. Absolutely yummy.

If you love icy cold dessert, make sure you make your way to any 100 Yen shop.
