Marche Movenpick @ The Curve

17 05 2011

Whenever I shop around The Curve, I always notice tons of people queuing up at the entrance of Marche. One must have the impression that the food is good judging by the amount of people eating there, including yours truly. So last month, I decided to have my dinner there with my other half.

What makes Marche so unique is the ‘passport’ card which is given to every customer when he or she steps into the restaurant. The interior is akin to a market environment where various food stations are set up namely pizza, pasta, rosti, grill, bakery, salad and etc. If a customer wishes to order any food from the respective food station, the chef will stamp on the passport card while the he or she waits for the food to be prepared. Once the customer checks out, the passport card will be collected back by the Marche staff to calculate the total amount spent.

Although the concept is unique, I find the restaurant overcrowded with people. Perhaps it was a weekend and understandably, most people prefer to eat outside but the crowd made it so hard for me to walk around the place. It almost feels claustrophobic with hot pans or plates being carried around by customers searching for a table to dine. Food can take as long as 20 minutes before it was ready and the customers will need to go back to the station to collect it.

I ordered the plain Rosti (RM 7.50), which was supposedly the signature dish at Marche. Rosti is basically made from potato strips lightly fried on the pan with oil. Honestly, I was disappointed with the dish. The grated potatoes tasted salty and it fell short of my expectations. The dollop of sour cream did not help to make it taste any better.

The mixed grilled (RM 20.00) did not fare any much better. The beef texture was hard and dry while the chicken wasn’t really great either.

The portion was also small and it doesn’t look appetizing at all.

The mixed grill came with a small cup of black pepper sauce which didn’t help to make the grilled meat taste any better.

Lastly, there was the crepe (RM 12.50) which is made from capsicum, vegetables, cheese and chicken strips wrapped with crepe.

The taste was flat and again, it was a disappointment for me.

I hardly put up a bad review for a restaurant but I am really hard pressed to say anything good about Marche. If there is one good point, the ambiance was lively and the variety of food to choose from certainly made it fun to walk around just to have an eye of what was in store at Marche.

I would however give this place a miss and wouldn’t go back there again anytime soon.
