Pun Chun Noodle @ Bidor

Two weeks ago, I drove up to Ipoh for a short weekend holiday. Since Ipoh is famous for its food, I thought it would be a good idea to bring along my camera to snap some pictures while enjoying the local delicacies there. We decided to leave early Saturday morning to avoid the weekend traffic and headed up north until we reached Bidor town which is about 70 km away from Ipoh.

Bidor is a small town where you can still see people using bicycle to travel. Along the main road, there are few rows of shops selling fruits. One of the most famous place to eat at Bidor is undoubtedly Pun Chun Noodle. I had been to their branch in Kota Kemuning but I was curious to see how the original shop in Bidor fares.

One thing for sure…. Patience is a virtue and it is a virtue that all customers must have in order to get a chance to eat the food here. The amount of people eating at this coffee shop is akin to having mad rush year end sale! You have to wait next to the table very closely in order to secure a seat once the customers leave. Well, I guess this can’t be help as the popularity of Pun Chun Noodle has attracted people from afar.

First off, we tried their famous Herbal Duck Soup (RM 6.50). The soup was served in an old steel container which gave a very authentic feel to it. The aroma is unmistakeably strong with scent of herbs emitting from the brown colour soup.

The duck meat is tender and has a rich taste of herbs as a result of boiling it with the herbal soup for hours. Highly recommended.

The dried noodle (RM 4.50) was pretty good although I find the texture slightly harder compared to the one at Kemuning. Nevertheless, the combination of Char Siew with the dark sauce noodle still packs a punch.

One thing I did notice was the size of their wanton. It was not as big as the ones served at Kota Kemuning. Taste wise, I do prefer the Kota Kemuning ones too.

Pun Chun Noodle House @ Kota Kemuning

I stopped by at Pun Chun Noodle House yesterday for their delicious bowl of Wan Ton mee. For those who doesn’t know, Pun Chun originated from Bidor Perak since the 1940′s and has since grown to be a crowd favourite for its signature Duck Wan Ton noodle.

Thankfully, food lovers do not need to drive all the way to the northern region to enjoy their mouth watering dishes since they have opened a branch at Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.

The restaurant was already jam-packed with customers as early as 9:00 a.m. I had a chance to grab a seat and ordered their dried Wan Ton noodle. Their noodles are home made using family secret recipe.

It has a ‘springy’ taste when chewed inside the mouth. Besides that their roast pork are marinated overnight and barbecued daily to ensure freshness.

Sliced green chillies with soya sauce go well with the dish.

Apart from that their Wan Ton is really big. According to them, the Wan Ton is also home made with fresh shrimps.

Overall, I am really happy with the meal which costs RM 6.
