Grand Imperial Kitchen @ Empire Gallery, Subang

23 05 2010

Right after our photoshoot with Noel two weeks back, my group of friends decided to venture around the new shopping mall for lunch. We stumbled across this this new restaurant called Grand Imperial Kitchen at the lower ground floor of the mall. I didn’t knew that they had another outlet in Bangsar Shopping Centre (which is very well-known) but the number of customers queuing up for tables on that day was a tell tale sign of how good the food must be.

Anyway, part of the reason why the newly opened restaurant is so popular is because of their super value set meals. At RM 11.90 per set, there were ten different set meals to choose from ranging from Curry Chicken Rice, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Roasted Pork Rice and etc.

We tried the BBQ Slice Pork Noodles and La Mian with Mince Pork. The BBQ Slice Pork were tasty and there were no colouring added to it (as far as I can tell).

One of the way to gauge whether a Wanton Noodle is nicely done is by tasting the BBQ Slice Pork. In this case, Grand Imperial’s seat meal passed with flying colours.

The La Mian was very spicy and definitely not for those who does not like spicy food but for those who does, they will appreciate the extra ‘kick’.

If I had but one criticism about the food, it has to be their soup. Our bowl of soup had a heavy smell of raw pork taste. Hopefully they can improve on that.

MC Curry Noodles @ Glenmarie

23 05 2010

Last week, while venturing out of my office for lunch, I recalled my colleague mentioning about this famous curry noodle restaurant at Glenmarie, Shah Alam some time ago. And since my taste bud was itching for something spicy that day, we headed down to the place to find out what the buzz was all about.

The first thing that struck me was the name of the name of the restaurant called MC Curry which sounded like an infrignment of trademark of another famous fast food restaurant. But upon searching the Internet, I found out that the owner is actually a ‘Mat Salleh’ named Mcculloch (his grandfather was a Scottish that married a local Chinese), hence the word ‘MC’ on their signage.

My colleague ordered their curry noodle soup which comes with chicken meat, tau fu pock, cockles among other things. The soup smells good and according to her, it was certainly tasty.

Yummy….

I took the dry version of curry noodle. I know that curry noodle taste best with soup but curiosity got the better of me and decided to try that instead. Thankfully, it was good.

The gravy was thick and flavoursome. Coupled with generous amount of potatoes, fried shallots and black sauce, it was a lip smacking meal.

Since the place is very packed during lunch hours, it is advisable to go early to get a seat.
