Pizzeria Bella Italia @ SS2 Petaling Jaya

8 03 2011

Nowadays, it is pretty hard press to find value for money set lunch. Hence, when I found out that Pizzeria Bella Italia is offering their set meals from RM 9.90 onwards, I was more than eager to try it out. Pizzeria Bella Italia has been around in SS2 for a long time. The funny thing is that I never actually stepped into this restaurant until I was told that the food is really good there.

The Margarita pizza that came with the set meal was served on a round wooden board.

The thin crust (which is how a real pizza should be prepared) and the light toppings tasted really good.

The cheesy texture was more than enough to make me smile. For RM 9.90, this is one of the best lunch deal around.

The classic spaghetti was equally delicious. Cooked with olive and slice chilies , the meal was simply good.

And for the price (RM 9.90), there is really nothing that I can fault about it.

Each set meal came with a bowl of mushroom soup and a piece of bread. The soup tasted pretty decent and did not have the floury texture offered at some other restauraunts.

Pizzeria Bella Italia is one of those restaurant that offers great food at a cheap price. Truly a rare gem in the neighbourhood of Petaling Jaya.

Sinfully Chocolate @ 3 Two Square, Petaling Jaya

14 01 2011

When I first heard of Sinfully Chocolate, I thought they would be selling, well, chocolates. So you can imagine how surprised I was when I was greeted with breads and pastries at the cafe instead. On top of that, Sinfully Chocolate were also serving food which comes in set lunch at the price of RM 9.90 each.

The Aglio Olio spaghetti was really tasty. There was a light yet tasty flavour to it.

I was never a fan of Aglio Olio until I tried this one. The finer strands of spaghetti (angle hair) tends to take in more flavour. The bacon was nicely cooked and goes well the the garlic and sundried tomatoes.

I also like the fact that they included some fresh salad and a potato bread.

Overall this is a definitely a thumbs up meal!

The Spaghetti Bolognese was equally good as well. The richness of the bolognese sauce was the number one reason why I really love it.

Minced chicken, diced tomatoes and a mixture of green and yellow pepper made this meal really tasty.

For RM 9.90, you can’t really go wrong with the food at Sinfully Chocolate. The portion is huge and the taste is great.

If you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price, Sinfully Chocolate would fit the bill nicely. Two thumbs up.

Kitchen Creatures @ Centrepoint

20 10 2010

When I first came across Kitchen Creatures, I was intrigued with their no-frills dining concept. Simply put, all food at Kitchen Creatures are nett price. This means there are no extra costs, no government tax and service charge. Certainly, this notion was a welcome change and prompted me to give this restaurant a try last weekend during lunch hour.

Apart from the name of the restaurant, their menu was also creatively designed. Inside, a plethora of food were just waiting for us to sink our teeth into.

I took the Monster Platter (RM 15) for starters which came with fried shrimp, mushrooms, mini chicken wings and nachos. The waiter apologised to us as they ran out of calamari rings but promptly substituted them with additional shrimps. Clearly, the name itself was a good indication of the huge plate which they served the food on. The portion was also quite reasonable and can be considered as main course if you are not a big eater.

And speaking of the shrimps, they were fresh and nicely fried. The shrimps were also tasty.

The mushrooms were also equally good. I rarely had fried mushrooms but the ones at Kitchen Creatures have made me look forward to eating them in the future.

The nachos were very big in size but somehow it weren’t as cheesy or spicy as I hoped they would be.

Thankfully, the chicken wings fared better. They were moist and tasty. I wished they would have given us at least two more pieces. Oh… that was gluttony speaking on my behalf.

The combination of sour cream with tomato ketchup had me dipping the food into these two sauces. I even asked for a second helping as the first one finished in no time at all.

Next up was the Chicken Shiitake (RM 15). It was basically grilled chicken breast accompanied with some buttered vegetables and spaghetti noodles.

Hmm… does buttered vegetables means they are fried with butter?

Ever heard of roasted capsicum sauce before? Well, it was the first time I came across it. The sauce was poured onto the chicken breast. It sure looks good and tasted even better! Slices of shiitake mushrooms were found underneath the chicken.

And what did yours truly had on that day? Behold… The Big Daddy Monster Burger! If you are game for something huge, this is it. The burger is so huge that you will gasp in awe when it is put on the table. It came with double patty (choice of chicken or beef), bacon, cheese and vegetables. For RM 18, I say it is value for money. You won’t find any burger that big for that price.

Putting the size aside, how does it taste? Well it wasn’t all the bad. I sliced the burger into two portions and the first half was rather dry in my opinion. The second half tasted much better as the sauce (presumably) was not evenly distributed.

In the end, I felt so full after eating the entire burger. I even skipped my dinner on that day and did not feel hungry the next morning.

Yeah, I guess Big Daddy Monster Burger sure lives up to its name.

Overall, I would consider Kitchen Creatures as nice place to eat. Of course, the no-frills dining concept will definitely means that what you eat is what you pay. Recommended!

Vivo @ Bukit Tinggi Jusco, Klang

21 02 2010

Despite venturing around town looking for nice food on a regular basis, it is sometimes not easy to decide what to eat especially when choices are abundant. This was the exact predicament I was facing when walking around Jusco at Bukit Tinggi last week. The number of restaurants there was certainly more than ample which makes it hard for me to choose what to have for a meal.

Taking my chances, I finally decided to try out this new restaurant called Vivo located at the ground floor of the shopping mall. According to the menu, the pizza served at Vivo originated from a secret recipe of the Horrigan family, who served the best American style pizza in town using the traditional method of baking. The friendly waiter recommended the Smoked Chicken BBQ pizza (RM 18.90) which comes with chicken strips, fresh mushroom, onions, capsicums and topped with their special BBQ sauce on a 10″ thin crust.

True enough, the pizza was really good.

I love the taste of the BBQ sauce. The smoked chicken meat is also nice but overall it is the sauce that gave the flavoursome taste.

The Seafood Spaghetti Aglio Olio (RM17.80 )  is another recommended meal.

If you are in the mood for some spicy dish, this certainly won’t disappoint.

The mussels are certainly big.

The prawns are fresh too.

More pictures…

Apart from that, I also tried the BBQ wings (RM 9.90). Since I was feeling really hungry that night, it didn’t take me long to finish them.

Our meal came with a Oreo Cheesecake (RM 5.80) which again was pretty good.

Fullhouse @ NZX

20 02 2010

It has been quite sometime since I visited Fullhouse at NZX. Apparently, this is the only surviving shop in the dilapidated NZX commercial area which is pretty sad considering how lively it was just one year ago.

Anyway it is always a nice experience going to Fullhouse as the place is reminiscent of a house from outside. The Mini car in front of the entrance is a sure crowd puller!

Inside, the interior is decorated like an English house with props such as pigeons, green grasses, potted plants, umbrellas and etc.

The menu is pretty interesting too since it is filled with hand drawn cartoons depicting the various dishes that they served.

I chose the ‘Thomas’ Favourite Meal’ set lunch (RM 16.90) which comes with a bowl of Forest Mushroom Soup, Spaghetti Pasta with Turkey Ham, Ice Lemon Tea and a dessert.

The forest mushroom soup comes with minced wild mushrooms which gives a thick texture to the soup.

And here is the Spaghetti with Turkey Ham.

I like the white sauce which has a creamy taste to it.

My colleague ordered ‘Tony’s Favourite Meal’ (RM 18.90) which comes with Oven Roasted Chicken Chop with Daily Vegetable.

In case you are wondering what daily vegetable is, it is actually Bak Choy with slice carrots.

Looks pretty good too.

Lastly, here is the lovely cake for dessert. I really don’t know what it is called but I like it a lot.

Overall, I enjoyed the food there. Combine with the nice ambiance and decorations, dining at Fullhouse is certainly an unique experience.
