Restoran Ah Or Chu Yuk Fun (Pork Noodle) @ Dataran Mentari, Sunway

20 11 2010

A while ago, I had a bowl of pork noodle at New Seaview and was unimpressed with the food there. With my insatiable hunger for pork noodles, I decided to dig around some food blogs for better alternatives. One of the names which came up in those blogs was Restoran Ah Or located at Dataran Mentari.

The auntie who operate this stall was very friendly. In fact, she doesn’t even mind that I took her picture up close. According to her, her family is running a string of popular pork noodle shops around Klang Valley. Hence, it was no surprise that the popularity of their pork noodle was evident from the number of people eating at her shop during lunch hours.

The pork noodle was seen cooking inside a big hot pot.

A good yardstick to determine how good a bowl of pork noodle is the soup. Here, the soup was really tasty and full of porky taste. It was sweet and flavoursome. Even my colleagues agreed with me hands down.

I always like my pork noodle (RM 5.70) to be cooked with Hor Fun as the noodle is smooth and soft.

Customers have a choice to to add an egg into their pork noodle which costs RM 1 extra.

Intestine and pork meat are vital ingredients that give the ‘ummph’ in a bowl of pork noodle.

The inclusion of a huge chunk of pork was a bonus. It was certainly the biggest chunk of meat I had for a bowl of pork noodle.

Overall, I would highly recommend this place. Not only was the food delicious, the restaurant was also clean (albeit a bit hot due to the scorching afternoon weather). If you love pork noodle, you will enjoy the food here. Although it is more expensive than the pork noodle at Restoran Ten-Tien Fatt, the taste was certainly on par with it.

Restoran New Seaview @ Paramount Garden

2 11 2010

*Non-halal post*

When I was working at Paramount Garden many years back, I would frequent Restoran New Seaview for the cheap and delicious hawker food. The coffee shop which is just a stone throw away from the Caltex petrol station has over the years earned its reputation as a crowd favourite as far as their food is concern.

Just yesterday, I had a chance to have my lunch there with my colleagues. I ordered the famous pork noodle which costs RM 5 for a big bowl. When the food arrived, I was rather shocked to see the portion being smaller. When I asked the helper whether he mistook my order, he pointed out that it was the big portion.

Anyway, the bowl of pork noodle still the same as I remembered it to be. The soup was sweet and had enough pork flavour in it.

The usual ‘spare parts’ such as liver and intestine were found in the bowl of pork noodle.

The only thing is that I ate a better version of pork noodle at Restoran Ten-Tien Fatt a couple of months back. The portion was much bigger and it costs less too. On the nutshell, I wasn’t impressed with the pork noodle at Sea View anymore. Not only was the portion visibly smaller, the price was also more expensive.

Restoran Do Re Mi @ Ara Damansara

8 09 2010

I am a fan of pork noodles. The best I had so far was a shop in Kepong which I don’t remember the name now. Perhaps, I will visit that restaurant again in the near future. For the time being, I had to settle for the one selling at Restoran Do Re Mi.

I ordered the dry version which costs RM 4.50 for a big bowl. Beside the sweet and savoury dark soy sauce, a good bowl of pork noodle should have sweet tasting roast sausage to complement the meal.

There was also chunks of pork meat in the soup which can be mixed with the noodles so that it won’t be so dry.

Too bad, the meal wasn’t that impressive. The taste was rather bland in my honest opinion. The roast sausage wasn’t flavoursome enough and there was a lack of soy sauce taste to warrant a thumbs up.

My recommendation is to stick with the bitter gourd noodle if you are going to this coffee shop for lunch.

Restoran Ten-Tien Fatt @ Subang Jaya

10 07 2010

A while ago, my colleague introduced a famous pork noodle stall at Restoran Ten-Tien Fatt located opposite of USJ 6 along Persiaran Kewajipan. Ten-Tien Fatt is one of those local coffee shop which consists of many small stalls that are commonly seen around town. When we arrived there during lunch hour, the place was already packed with people which is a good indication of its popularity. Apparently, the pork noodle shop is single handedly run by a foreigner which I presume is employed by a local Chinese.

Since the coffee shop is situated right on the ground floor of an apartment do expect limited tables and lack of air-conditioning. We sat at the back of the coffee shop which is an open area with make shift ‘pasar malam’ type of umbrellas to shield customers from the hot sun.

But for what it is worth, the pork noodle (RM 4,30 for a big bowl) was really good. It came with a generous amount of pork lards which definitely gave a distinctive flavour to the soup.

The pork balls have a springy texture and tasted fresh. Thumbs up.

Besides the pork ball, the stall also included mince pork meat which goes very well with soy sauce with sliced chilli.

Overall, I am really happy with the meal. The soup has the right amount of taste (sweet and flavoursome) with a healthy dose of lards for the extra ‘kick’.

Sun Sea Restaurant @ Taman OUG

6 03 2010

I have blogged about Sun Sea Restaurant before this. Last week, I went there again for lunch. This time, we ordered the dried version of the pork mee. It came in a bowl of kuey teow noodle with black sauce and fried pork lard.

The soup is still one of the best I have tried so far.

I also tried the roast chicken rice which is equally good. The chicken meat is tender while the rice is cooked with chicken broth.

This is one of the best chicken rice I have tried so far apart from Kie Kee at PJ Old Town.
