Pick n’ Brew @ Glenmarie

23 05 2011

Despite dining at Pick n’ Brew numerous times, the place has never failed to impress me with its cozy dining ambiance and an admirable range of Italian and Asian cuisines. With such an attractive atmosphere and food fare, one would never expect to find such a fine restaurant situated in the sprawling industrial zone of Hicom Glenmarie. Indeed, Pick n’ Brew is located at the left wing of the CNI (a multi-level marketing company) building which is another surprising factor for me.

Apart from the food which I will talk about later, Pick n’ Brew serves Graffiti Latte (RM 10) which is a cup of coffee with hand-drawn patterns on the foam.

Apparently, Graffiti Latte has been around for decades. What started from pouring simple pattern on the foam has evolved into a work of art in every drink. The Graffiti Latte comes with two pieces of Biscotti that can be dipped into the coffee.

While RM 10 is expensive for a cup of coffee, the opportunity to witness something as unique as this is really worth paying for. It was a good cup of coffee and the artful design certainly was a bonus to me.

Food at Pick n’ Brew is certainly not cheap but for what it is worth, the food presentation and taste makes up for it. First up is the Crispy Skin Seabass (RM 30).

According to the menu, the seabass is cooked with asparagus, mixed vegetables and tomato salsa sauce. Preparing this dish does require a fine balance between cooking the skin till it is crispy without over drying the fillet meat.

The salsa sauce has a light taste to it and complimented the fish well without overpowering the taste of the fillet.

The Grenobloise Salmon Fillet (RM 28) which was complimented with potatoes, lemon butter and spinach cream was equally good.

The salmon tasted fresh and goes well with the cream and herbs. The taste was light without too much of creamy taste which brings out the flavour of the fresh salmon.

Pick n’ Brew is certainly a good choice for food (and coffee). Despite its unconventional location, the cozy ambiance and great food were more than enough for me to take a slightly longer drive to dine there.

Dr. Cafe @ Solaris, Mont Kiara

25 04 2011

One early morning, I found myself at the uber-modern commercial centre, Solaris Mont Kiara to exchange my defective iPhone at DiGi centre. While waiting for DiGi to open, I spotted Dr. Cafe which looks appealing from outside. While I am not a coffee lover, I do enjoy spending my time at any Starbucks outlet since the music and cozy ambiance make it feel like a second home to me.

Dr. Cafe seems to offer a similar ‘feel’ and hence, I decided to have my breakfast there. I took the E-Breakfast value set (RM 7.40) which includes a turkey and cheese burger and a cup of coffee.

The mini burger comes with a slice of turkey with melted cheese oozing out. It has a slight savoury taste to it. Although the portion wasn’t big, it was good enough to fill my stomach although I wish the size was slightly bigger.

As far as I know, Dr. Cafe prides itself on serving the highest quality coffee beans. Like I said, I am not a coffee connoisseur to tell how a good coffee should taste like, but as far as I know, the coffee tasted alright to me.

Apart from the food, the customer service was good (the staff were full of smile) although photography was not allowed inside Dr. Cafe (sigh!). Speaking about the interior, Dr. Cafe do offer their own range of merchandise for sale ranging from coffee cups to tumblers and etc.

And look… Their serviette comes with printed text. How cool is that?

In short, I wouldn’t mind dropping by Dr. Cafe for a cup of coffee if I am around the neighbourhood of Solaris the next time.

Sunday morning @ Sunway Giza

Here I am sitting inside Austin Chase Coffee at Sunway Giza on a Sunday morning. Nothing beats lazing on the chair while sipping a cup of English tea. I must say… it is a nice environment here indeed.

San Francisco Coffee @ Bangsar South

This picture was taken in San Francisco Coffee located at Bangsar South, Sphere. Apparently, this new neighbourhood shopping mall is quite nice with open glass concept. I will try to post more pictures as soon as I get my laptop sorted out.
