Heaven Cafe @ Ara Damansara

20 11 2010

I had a quick lunch at Heaven Cafe and ordered the chicken omelette rice (RM 8.90) which comes in two variants, namely the sesame dressing and also Teriyaki sauce. Chicken omelette rice is basically butter rice wrapped with a layer of egg with slices of chicken on top. Here are the pictures taken.

The Meal Place @ Dana 1, Ara Damansara

27 10 2010

Last week, while searching for a new place to eat for lunch, my colleagues stumbled across a new commercial area called Dana 1 which is located just next to the Symphony building at Ara Damansara. One of the restaurant called The Meal Place was packed with people that day. Apparently, the Dried Chili Pan Mee was only RM 3.50 per bowl as part of their introductory offer.

The bowl of pan mee came with quite a big portion. Dried chili flakes, fried shallots, spring onions, mince meat and fried anchovies were nicely placed on top of the noodles.

For RM 3.50 per bowl, it sure looks good and yummy.

However, taste wise, it was rather disappointing. Simply put, there wasn’t much taste to begin with. Most of the time, the taste was over powered by the chili flakes.

Honestly, I won’t even consider going back to the Meal Place after having the dried chili pan mee.

While they do sell other type of dishes, my colleagues were of the opinion that they wasn’t tasty as well.

Heaven Cafe @ Ara Damansara

14 10 2010

Being a new restaurant at Ara Damansara, Heaven Cafe has recently introduced set lunch in a bid to capture the afternoon crowd. The set lunch costs RM 6.90 which comes with a free drink. Not bad considering they are offering western food which can be quite expensive in some other restaurants.

Each day, they will pick one dish as their promotional set lunch. We went there on Tuesday and had the Chicken Sausage Pasta. The inclusion of fries was something I didn’t expect but nevertheless helped fill the stomach.

The sliced chicken sausage tasted like how it should. No surprises here.

The spaghetti sauce is slightly sourish which wasn’t a bad thing.

Overall for RM 6.90, I would say it is cheap.

If you happened to be around Ara Damansara, do give Heaven Cafe a try. At Rm 6.90 for set lunch, I doubt you can find a deal better than this.

Restoran Do Re Mi @ Ara Damansara

8 09 2010

I am a fan of pork noodles. The best I had so far was a shop in Kepong which I don’t remember the name now. Perhaps, I will visit that restaurant again in the near future. For the time being, I had to settle for the one selling at Restoran Do Re Mi.

I ordered the dry version which costs RM 4.50 for a big bowl. Beside the sweet and savoury dark soy sauce, a good bowl of pork noodle should have sweet tasting roast sausage to complement the meal.

There was also chunks of pork meat in the soup which can be mixed with the noodles so that it won’t be so dry.

Too bad, the meal wasn’t that impressive. The taste was rather bland in my honest opinion. The roast sausage wasn’t flavoursome enough and there was a lack of soy sauce taste to warrant a thumbs up.

My recommendation is to stick with the bitter gourd noodle if you are going to this coffee shop for lunch.

Restoran N-Kee @ Ara Damansara

12 08 2010

My colleague recommended a Chinese coffee shop at Ara Damansara for Hakka Mee last week. While I haven’t eaten too many different Hakka Mee to tell which one is the best, the one that I had at N-Kee was quite good. The noodle was served with barbecued pork which was nicely grilled as the outer skin has a slight burnt texture.

They also added minced pork which gives a tinge of sweetness to the dish.

The wanton wasn’t really great. Compared to some of the better ones I have tasted, this one was only average at best.

For RM 5, it is the standard price to pay for lunch nowadays in a city area.

Overall, given the limited choices around Ara Damansara, the  Hakka Mee is one of the better tasting meal around.

Restoran Do Re Mi @ Ara Damansara

19 07 2010

One of the coffee shop that I usually frequent during lunch time is Restoran Do Re Mi at Ara Damansara. Apart from its catchy name which is synonymous to musical notes, this place is quite popular among office workers due to the variety of food that are sold there.

A visit to this coffee shop won’t be complete without trying the Bitter Gourd Noodle (RM 4). Usually, the idea of cooking noodle with bitter gourd may not sound to appealing to most people including yours truly. However, my skepticism instantly diminished as soon as I had a taste of its soup. Not only was the soup sweet, the bitter gourd compliments the taste pretty well.

The inclusion of pork slices was a plus point together with a huge chunk of toufu.

Bitter gourd has never tasted so good…

My colleague took the vegetable egg noodle as its texture is different from the usual type of noodle.

I ordered the Imperial Noodle (RM 5.80) which was served in a mini wok. Having a fancy name like Imperial Noodle sure sounded appealing to me. True to its name, Imperial Noodle, implying a majestic meal has a variety of stuff in it. From a huge chunk of crab meat and fried fillet, the dish certainly looked appetizing.

The fishballs were springy and tasted quite alright.

They also included half cooked egg on top of the noodle.

Overall, the noodle was pretty okay although my preference still goes to the Bitter Gourd Noodle.

The soup has a clear taste which was a surprise for me as I would expect a more flavoursome taste due to the handful of stuff in it. Personally, I find it a bit bland for my taste bud.

Heaven Cafe @ Ara Damansara

9 07 2010

Heaven Cafe is a newly opened restaurant located at Ara Damansara. Situated just a few doors away from Pet Icons, we were rather intrigue by this place when I drove past there last week with my colleagues. Obviously, curiosity got the better of us and we decided to try out this place. First thing I noticed was the interior decoration or rather the lack of. The walls are painted with dull dark gray and the overall ambiance was quite bare. Nevertheless, despite the featureless interior, their food presentation was thankfully, a stark contrast.

According to the owner, the chef was based in Japan previously and learned a few culinary tricks while he was staying there. She elaborated that all their food are cooked without MSG, and hence the natural flavour.

First up is the Baked Tuna Penne (RM 9.90).

Apart from minced tuna, the dish was prepared with five kind of herbs. The inclusion of yellow cucumber was the first I seen in any dish.

The whipped potato which is made by themselves tasted really different. Instead of the powdery texture from those fast food restaurant, this one was a real deal. Overall, I am quite happy with it. I couldn’t taste any MSG and my throat certainly did not felt dry from eating this dish.

Next up is the Basil Spinach Fillet (RM 11.90). As you can see, the fillet is soaked with olives oil.

There were  also criss-cut potatoes and herbs.

One noteworthy feature is the half cut onion which is something different in terms of food presentation. And being a lover of onion (not many people are), I find it to be quite tasty.

We also took the Tomyam Chicken Chop (RM 9.90). Mixing Thai flavour with Western style cooking is one of the fusion dishes that Heaven Cafe offers.

According to the owner, the Tomyam paste is made by themselves rather than buying it off the shelves. Every morning, the chef would blend certain ingredients together to produce the paste. She also mentioned that this is a crowd favourite so far. But according to my colleagues, the Tomyam taste was not as concentrated as she would like it to be.

Mango Melon Chicken Chop (RM 9.90) uses pure vinegar and capsicum for its dressing. Apart from the obvious mango and melon slices, there were also mash potatoes…

And finally, one of my colleague took the Chicken Chop with sesame dressing (RM 9.90). The unique sesame white sauce is certainly nice as commented by my colleague. The restaurant owner said that the sauce is made by themselves.

Similar with the rest of the dishes, they also included the yellow cucumber and mash potatoes.

Heaven Cafe will be rolling out more dishes in the forthcoming months. The lack of manpower is currently a problem for them and hence the limited choices in their menu. Overall, I find their food presentation to be fantastic. Their unique blend of herbs and other natural ingredients is certainly something to be applauded although taste wise, certain dishes could fare better with some fine-tuning. Undoubtedly, the price is something to be taken note of as other places would probably costs more for these sort of meal.
