Pun Chun Noodle House @ Kota Kemuning

28 11 2009

I stopped by at Pun Chun Noodle House yesterday for their delicious bowl of Wan Ton mee. For those who doesn’t know, Pun Chun originated from Bidor Perak since the 1940’s and has since grown to be a crowd favourite for its signature Duck Wan Ton noodle.

Thankfully, food lovers do not need to drive all the way to the northern region to enjoy their mouth watering dishes since they have opened a branch at Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.

The restaurant was already jam-packed with customers as early as 9:00 a.m. I had a chance to grab a seat and ordered their dried Wan Ton noodle. Their noodles are home made using family secret recipe.

It has a ‘springy’ taste when chewed inside the mouth. Besides that their roast pork are marinated overnight and barbecued daily to ensure freshness.

Sliced green chillies with soya sauce go well with the dish.

Apart from that their Wan Ton is really big. According to them, the Wan Ton is also home made with fresh shrimps.

Yummy big Wan Ton…

Overall, I am really happy with the meal which costs RM 6.

Data Recovery Services

26 11 2009

Disaster struck me a few days back when my six months old laptop hard disk crashed unexpectedly. All my precious photos and important documents were unrecoverable no matter what I did to revive it.

Thankfully, MDR Recovery Solution came to my rescue. Located in Kepong just opposite of Jusco, this centre specialises in data recovery service. My hard disk (Seagate Momentus 250GB 5400 RPM) was sent it on Friday and was promptly recovered yesterday.

While the price is not exactly cheap, I came to know that some other data recovery centre can charge up to an astronomical price of RM 4,000 per hard disk. So comparatively speaking, I guess the amount that I paid for was relatively cheap.

Mr. Yew, who is one of the business co-owner was very friendly indeed. He even copied all my recovered data into DVDs for backup purpose. If anyone of you faces data loss crisis, make sure you drop by MDR before it is too late.

New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice @ Sri Petaling

21 11 2009

While driving from OUG to Sri Petaling I stumbled across the famous Ipoh Chicken Rice where its main branch is located at Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya. Apparently, the Sri Petaling branch has been around for quite some time but I didn’t realise it until then. The restaurant is packed with customers during lunch time but the service is nevertheless quite fast. I ordered the Steam Kampung Chicken which is their trademark dish.

The chicken was nicely cook. Combine with the flavoursome soya sauce gravy, the meal was totally out of this world.

The rice meanwhile was prepared using chicken fat which gives a nice aromatic taste to it.

We also ordered the pork ball which didn’t disappoint us as well.

The meal costs us RM 25 which wasn’t cheap but I guess good taste do comes with a price.

Nasi Lemak Kukus

20 11 2009

Nothing beats having a packet of nasi lemak for breakfast. And that was exactly what I had last week when my colleague surprised me with a packet of nasi lemak kukus (steam nasi lemak). There is even a sticker with the contact number of the seller in case you want to order more. How enterprising…

Anyway, what makes this packet of nasi lemak different from the usual nasi lemak bungkus is the extra piece of sambal chicken. Definitely a good way to satisfy a hungry stomach in the morning.

San Francisco Coffee @ Bangsar South

This picture was taken in San Francisco Coffee located at Bangsar South, Sphere. Apparently, this new neighbourhood shopping mall is quite nice with open glass concept. I will try to post more pictures as soon as I get my laptop sorted out.

Kenny Rogers Roaster @ Subang Parade

17 11 2009

Unexpectedly, my six months old Dell Latitude hard disk crashed last night. All my post processed photos are stored there. And since those are my only copies, I hope it can be salvaged once the technician remove the faulty hard disk for me to connect it with an external casing.

Anyway, here are some pictures taken at Kenny Rogers Roasters at Subang Parade a few days back when I was having lunch there.

When Kenny Rogers Roasters arrived in Malaysia many years ago, its first outlet in Bangsar was a big hit. Firewood were used to roast the chicken which makes it tastier compared to KFC.

However, as years gone by Kenny Rogers Roaster became less popular. I even heard of stories where the chickens are no longer cooked using firewood. Putting rumors aside, I just came to know through Wikipedia that Kenny Rogers Roaster went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was since bought over by Nathan Famous Inc. in 1999. In Malaysia, the franchise was bought over by Berjaya Group.

We took the set menu which came with a quarter chicken and choices of three side dishes. The chicken was nicely cooked with brown sauce poured over it.

And here is the Garden Salad Pasta which is one of the side dishes that we chose…

… and the White Creamy Coleslaw.

They even throw in some nice Kenny’s Famous Muffins which came with the set meal and a choice of drink. Surprisingly the muffin was very good too.

Overall, I would rate this place as pretty good since I had a hearty meal that afternoon.

Delicious Nyonya @ Tropicana City Mall

16 11 2009

There was a new restaurant recently opened at Tropicana City Mall called Delicious Nyonya. It is apparently owned by the Tai Thong Group which has a whole range of other F&B outlets such as San Francisco Steakhouse, Royal Thai, Room Eighteen, Bad Ass Coffee and etc.

DSC_3019

Nyonya cuisine is synonymous to delicious food since its history traces back to the days where early Chinese settlement from China weds local Malay folks. As a result, the first generation of mixed Chinese-Malays were known as Peranakan (male being known as Baba while female as Nyonya). Consequently, nyonya food is a fusion of the Malay and Chinese style cooking style.

DSC_3037

I had high hopes when I walked into Delicious Nyonya that day for lunch with my colleagues. The restaurant is spacious and bright while the furnishing is reminicient of the Baba Nyonya style restaurant.

Food however was a mixed bag. I ordered the nasi lemak which was recommended by the waiter.

DSC_3104

It was ok as far as the taste is concern. As usual, the dish came with some Acar and ikan bilis.

DSC_3109

Oh apart from ala carte meals, they also sell Nyonya Kuih. Kuih Seri Muka is commonly seen everywhere.

DSC_3063
This is called Kuih Ketayap which has coconut fillings wrapped with green pancake skin.

DSC_3070

Pulut panggang is another crowd favourite.

DSC_3079

The Asam Fish was a disappointment. My colleague told me that it tasted raw or uncooked. When we raised this up with the waiter, we were told that the fish that they used (ikan Tenggiri) has that natural smell / taste in them.

DSC_3150

However, we didn’t buy the story and they promptly swapped it with Nyonya Curry Chicken. This one actually fared better and I like it although my colleague said that the ‘santan’ (coconut milk) taste was very heavy.

DSC_3168

Similarly, the Nyonya Laksa shared the same comment.

DSC_3184

Some of the food came with side dishes such as this small bowl of Acar and mixed vegetables.

DSC_3160

DSC_3164

As for dessert, they threw in a bowl of green bean dessert soup. I find it too sweet for my taste.

DSC_3180

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place as I have tasted much better Peranakan food elsewhere. Perhaps, we were there on the wrong day when the food somehow weren’t that great.

Clear blue skies

16 11 2009

I took a stroll around my new housing area this morning since the blue skies were really beautiful with white puffy clouds. Here is a picture that I have took during my short walk up the hill along the back of my new housing area.

Papa John’s Pizza @ Sunway Pyramid

13 11 2009

Papa John’s Pizza has finally arrived in Malaysia. Actually, it has been around for a few month since the opening of its first outlet at Times Square. However, I did not get a chance to taste it until last week at their Sunway outlet.

DSC_2855

“Better Ingredients, Better Pizza” has always been Papa John’s tag line and it certainly reflects on the quality of their pizza. Apparently, their Super Papa’s came highly recommended as it a classic combination of Beef Pepperoni, Italian Beef Sausage, Chicken Roll, Fresh Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions and Black Olives. We took the 6″ original which costs RM 11.20.

DSC_3000

Here is the picture of the Super Papa’s pizza. I have tasted some really good pizzas before at some fancy Italian restaurant. So it is not fair to compare them together since Papa’s pizzas are price differently for mass market. But suffice to say (and comparatively speaking), it is better than our local Pizza Hut and even Dominoes Pizza.

DSC_2909

We also took the Land & Sea (RM11.20) which consists of Chicken Roll, Shrimps, Mushrooms, Green Peas and Sweet Pineapple.

DSC_2965

So what makes Papa John’s Pizzas taste so good? Well, for one thing, their pizza crusts are nicely baked unlike some other restaurant which has rubbery texture crusts. On top of that, I love pouring a generous amount of their complimentary garlic and pizza sauce which came with our order. Good thing they don’t charge extra for requesting additional sauces. While some people may want to dip their bite size crust into the sauce I love to gobble up my pizza with the sauces on the toppings.

DSC_2991

Hmm… yummy….

DSC_2983

They also gave some kind of green pepper which I did not try since it didn’t look appetizing to me. Some people might like it though.

DSC_2960

Overall it was a good experience eating there. Anyone who loves pizza should drop by Papa John’s for its fresh pizzas.

Vietnam Kitchen @ Plaza OUG

10 11 2009

While looking for a place to eat last Saturday night, I suggested trying out the food at Vietnam Kitchen. I have been to this place a few times before and  usually opted for their set dinner which is pretty tasty.

DSC_2814

Nevertheless, variety is the spice of life and hence I decided to try the beef noodle (RM 12.90) instead which looks pretty interesting and came with chef recommendation.

DSC_2791

Vietnam food are usually accompanied with a generous serving of fresh vegetables.

DSC_2765

True enough, it was good. There were a few slices of beef and meatballs. The soup was flavoursome and didn’t leave my throat dry (an good indication that minimal or no MSG used).

DSC_2799

My girlfriend took the Slice Chicken with Spring Vermicelli which looks really colourful. It was also very appetizing. The fresh taste of vegetables goes well with the meat.

DSC_2781

Just as expected, Vietnam Kitchen has maintain its standard of food throughout the years.
